The Forth Valley Royal Hospital is the largest National Health Service facility ever built in Scotland. The hospital spans 4,000 rooms with 25 wards. With such a large building, it was vital to have an effective and robust fire detection system in place to protect patients, staff, and visitors. The system also needed to communicate with a fleet of transportation robots to prevent them from entering a danger zone in the event of a fire. And the hospital wanted a solution that would minimize disruptive and potentially dangerous false alarms.

This case study demonstrates Johnson Controls' ability to help design, plan, and install a system using 28 MX2-211 fire panels, 5,300 smoke detectors, and four FM200 extinguishing systems. In addition, over 2,500 smoke fire dampers were installed, with an electronic control module. Should a fire occur, these dampers close automatically to stop the spread of smoke and fumes into adjacent areas.
