To maximize energy savings through more efficient HVAC equipment, Target is installing 3,600 York Predator series packaged rooftop units at stores eight years or older. The units feature energy-saving technologies including variable speed drives, California Title 24-compliant economizers and new Energy Recovery Ventilators designed for retailers. York packaged units offer easy customization, fast installation and low operating costs. 

In the largest single-state energy savings performance contract with Johnson Controls, the Hawaii’s Department of Transportation (HDOT) expects to cut airport electric bills by 49 percent, reduce highway lighting energy use by 43 percent, and improve harbor energy efficiency to save more than $680 million.

HDOT is investing $245 million over 18 years in safety and energy efficiency upgrades including HVAC systems, solar PV arrays and LED lighting and controls. The initiative aligns with state efforts to move Hawaii from importing nearly 95 million barrels of oil a year to relying entirely on renewable energy by 2045.  

Chengdu International Finance Square, a flagship project by the Wharf (Holdings) Limited, is first in southwest China to earn LEED Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance Platinum certification. The project comprises a shopping mall, two premium office buildings, a hotel and luxury apartments.

Johnson Controls improved the HVAC and building controls systems, helping achieve energy efficiency 35 percent higher than average. Our experts also enhanced the existing energy consumption system to reduce operational cost, improve building energy efficiency and enhance indoor environment quality.

Today’s vehicles include up to 50 computers and 150 electrified devices, to run everything from navigation systems and safety features to heated seats and entertainment systems. Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries manufactured by Johnson Controls are engineered to deliver:

• Superior starting power even at low charge
• Reliability in extreme conditions
• Excellent durability under high loads
• Improved fuel efficiency—up to 5 percent in start-stop vehicles

Stringent environmental regulations mean that by 2020, a projected 50 percent of all cars built in North America will have start-stop systems. Johnson Controls intends to be ready. With $780 million in global investments between 2015 and 2020, we’re expanding AGM production capacity in Europe, North America and China.

In a joint venture with Binzhou Bohai Piston Co., Ltd., an auto parts affiliate of Beijing Automotive Industry Group Co., Ltd. (BAIC Group), Johnson Controls is building our fourth Chinese automotive battery manufacturing plant. The facility, in Binzhou, Shandong Province, will serve both aftermarket and automaker customers. This joint venture strategically positions Johnson Controls and Bohai Piston to take advantage of what will be the world's largest automotive battery market by 2020.

In the last year, more than 60,000 people have visited www.recyclingmybattery.com, the Johnson Controls website that helps people find the nearest U.S. retail location to recycle used vehicle batteries.

We promote the site to help make vehicle batteries the world’s most recycled consumer product. And we practice what we preach. Last year, Johnson Controls recycled 8,000 batteries per hour across our global recycling system.

The Recaro Sport Seat Platform (RSSP) earned four seals of approval at the 2016 Plus X Award competition, one of the world’s biggest innovation competitions for technology, sports and lifestyle products.

A jury of independent industry experts recognized the RSSP for innovation, high quality, design and ergonomics. Introduced as production-ready at the Frankfurt IAA in 2015, the RSSP combines lightweight design, modularity and personalization to meet tomorrow’s demands today. 

The third generation of Johnson Controls reduced-emissions polyurethane foam registers up to 90 percent fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than its predecessors from 10 years ago. The foam also contains significantly fewer material impurities and associated odors.

For 15 years, Johnson Controls has led in research, development and production of low-emission foam for vehicle seating. The resulting innovations bring consumers cleaner, healthier air in the vehicle interior.

The technology center of Chongqing Yanfeng Johnson Controls Automotive Components Co., Ltd., was formally named a Johnson Controls global technology center. It’s the third such center in China. With 121 engineers, the center has declared more than 100 patents, developed 33 seating projects, and set up engineering front offices in Nanjing and Shanghai to partner with customers’ technology centers.
