Commitment to Philanthropy

Since 1952, the company has regularly contributed to the Johnson Controls Foundation to ensure robust philanthropic support for the community. In the last ten years, Johnson Controls Foundation has funded more than $77 million to support U.S. charitable organizations.

Milwaukee Focus

Our corporate philanthropy is in collaboration with community partners globally, with a special emphasis of support for our North American Headquarters city of Milwaukee.

Johnson Controls has long supported the cornerstone Milwaukee nonprofits that define the city regionally and nationally. We recognize our responsibility as a corporate citizen with historic headquarters in Milwaukee to engage with and support these institutions. Johnson Controls is a community leader with both our United Way and United Performing Arts Fund campaigns.

Our Neighborhood Focus

Johnson Controls seeks to be a partner to our closest neighbors, in the area just west of Johnson Controls corporate headquarters, the neighborhoods of West Lawn, Havenwoods and Thurston Woods. Johnson Controls seeks to change the trajectory of lives in these neighborhoods by providing layers of volunteerism, engagement and funding. The multi-sport court on the campus of the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center was a joint gift of the Bucks and Johnson Controls, and the project won a 2019 Milwaukee Award for Neighborhood Development Innovation. The court includes a decade of supported programming for the children of the neighborhood.

Matching Gift Program

Johnson Controls matching gift program is available to eligible Johnson Controls employees and retirees. Johnson Controls matches employee donations to organizations that build safe, smart and sustainable communities globally. Employees may give through the MyGiving platform located on our internal MyJCI site. Retirees can download our guidelines for more information about how to apply for a matching gift.
Retiree Guidelines
The Johnson Controls Foundation provides a dollar-for-dollar match to U.S. employee donations to approved U.S. nonprofit organizations, with an aggregate donation of up to $500,000 annually.
The Johnson Controls Foundation provides college scholarship support to high school seniors who are children of U.S. Johnson Controls employees through a competitive application process.

Johnson Controls Foundation Grants

Our Johnson Controls Foundation operates in the United States with an intensive focus on supporting those organizations with robust levels of Johnson Controls employee volunteerism. It is aligned with the company’s overall philanthropic focus of building safe, smart and sustainable communities where our employees live and work. Each year, the Johnson Controls Foundation makes grants totaling about $7 million to nearly a hundred organizations. The Foundation is a separate entity than Johnson Controls and has its own board of directors.
